World Summit Youth Award 2012

Young People Using Internet and Mobiles for Social Good

Montréal, Canada, 22-24 October 2012

Do you use social media to do good for your community and for your own future? Do you use blogs and vlogs to raise critical questions? Do you create websites or mobile apps that fight discrimination, hunger or diseases? If yes, take your chance to show that you are at home in digital and social media and know how to bring about positive development, be it in your neighbourhood or in another country: Submit your new media project to the World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) and win the chance to meet engaged Youth from around the world and network with representatives of NGOs, governments and media!

The WSYA is an annual award and a network for young people using the internet, mobile phones or other digital media to put the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) into action. The MDGs were set in 2000 by the UN to prompt member states and civil society to fight poverty, hunger and disease, inequalities, lack of education and environmental degradation.

Are you a young person up to 30 years of age? Are you involved in a youth initiative producing outstanding digital content? Then make sure to submit your project for the next edition of the World Summit Youth Award and European Youth Award!

The World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) and European Youth Award (EYA) select and promote best practice in e-Content, demonstrate young people's potential to create outstanding digital contents and serve as a platform for people from all UN member states to work together in the efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

In case you are not sure what kind of e-Content is eligible for the contest, make sure explore the last year´s winners to get inspired.  As each year, projects can be submitted within these Six WSYA categories:

1. Fight Poverty, Hunger and Disease !

2. Education for All !

3. Power 2 Women

4. Create your Culture !

5. Go Green !

6. Pursue Truth !

Apply once, win twice!

Did you know that if you are coming from a European country, you have a chance to win twice? Since the European Youth Award is a regional award of the WSYA you only need to submit your application once, however your project will be evaluated twice - on both European as well worldwide level. That means, that your outstanding project can win two awards for a single project!

Does that sound good enough? We are looking forward your applications!

Take part!

The World Summit Youth Award 2012 registration is now open!  If you wish to submit your project, please visit the registration site!

If you are are not sure what type of projects are eligible, have a look at the winning projects of 2011 for a better understanding of the outstanding e-content we are looking for!
