Cultural Leadership International Programme 2010
Beirut, Lebanon - London, United Kingdom, September 2010 - April 2011
The programme focuses on supporting a new generation of cultural practitioners to:
• Act internationally in their work: i.e. exchange knowledge and ideas with a global network of individuals and organisations beyond their usual sphere of operation.
Employment creation
Economic regeneration
Social cohesion
Cultural policy formulation
• Encourage flexibility of thought and action to adapt to new challenges, and encourage the understanding of other contexts and experiences through intercultural dialogue.
CLI aims to:
• Strengthen the influence and position of the cultural sector globally as a key social agent.
• Position the UK as a global cultural and creative hub and as the world leader in the development of the creative economy agenda.
• Develop an active, international network of future cultural leaders who will utilise the skills, ideas and experiences gained in the programme to influence their societies in key areas, including cultural policy-making, economic development and social cohesion.
The programme will focus on networking and exchange through a flexible, cross-regional programme of opportunities for next generation cultural leaders. By developing leadership competencies and networks, the programme will enable further international and intercultural engagement between cultural individuals and organisations in the UK and other regions of the world, and also facilitate inter-regional activity.
• Transformational Leadership:
Seminars and discussion forums to explore and reinforce the ability of cultural leaders to respond positively and imaginatively to social, economic, technical and environmental challenges.
• International networks and know-how exchanges:
Cross-regional leadership workshops for mid-career cultural practitioners to discuss issues and exchange ideas around leadership and culture.
• Individual development:
Peer-led action learning, mentoring and placements schemes.
At the end of the programme a global network of next generation cultural leaders, who value the role of culture in society and have acquired new ideas to drive the sector forward, will be engaged directly and speaking on equal terms with the UK.
Strong international partnerships, collaborative projects/working practices and shared development of leadership models will all help contribute to a stronger international cultural sector, with the UK at its centre.
