Youth for Change Phase III is looking for Coordinators in 22 Arab Countries

Do you believe that Arab youth can be Agents of Change in their communities? Do you want to be part of a dynamic team and work to empower youth in your country and the Arab world? Then why don’t you join the Youth for Change Program and be one of our country coordinators. Youth for Change is a program implemented by TakingITGlobal in partnership with Bibliotheca Alexandrina and other local organizations in the Arab Region to encourage cross cultural dialogue and support youth led development projects. Program Description

The “Youth for Change” program aims at inspiring, informing and involving Arab Youth to be Agents of Change in their communities. The phase III of this program focuses on the theme: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding-Take Action, and will be launched in November 2010, through a partnership between Bibliotheca Alexandrina and TakingITGlobal as well as other local organizations in the MENA region. The program aims to encourage cross cultural dialogue and support youth-led development projects in all 22 countries of the League of Arab States: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, and Yemen.



The program aims to achieve its objectives through the following:

• Facilitating ongoing cross-cultural dialogue through the use of online community tools and spaces provided by TakingITGlobal and InfoMall. 
• Organizing four online live chats to encourage discussion among the program participants under the theme (Dialogue and Mutual Understanding-Take Action).
• Conducting a Panorama and Global Gallery contest where participants from the Arab World and other regions can express their ideas about this issue in the Panorama Zine and the Global Gallery. 
• Supporting youth-led action projects through providing Mini-Grant Awards and a project management e-course in Arabic.
• Organizing knowledge-sharing events to showcase the mini-grants winners’ local projects in cooperation with host organizations in their countries.
• Offering the potential mini-grant winners scholarships to attend the 6th Arab Youth Forum in Alexandria, Egypt to present their projects ideas and share experiences.
• Offering selected award winners scholarships to attend an International Youth Conference in order to receive additional support, training and access to international networks focused on supporting youth-led development. 
• Producing a publication to showcase the initiatives of the Youth for Change mini-grant winners and the impact they reached in their communities. 

In this regard, the program seeks committed, motivated, creative and outgoing young people for the position of the “Youth for Change” Country Coordinator in each of the countries mentioned above. If you are a young native Arabic-speaker who is interested in participating in this program, as well as working in a high-energy community, this could be your ideal placement. This is a volunteer position offered for a 12 month time period at a minimum of 8-10 hours per week. An honorarium will be offered upon completion of the program activities and submission of final report. The Country coordinator will be reporting to the “Youth for Change” Program Manager and Host Organization Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 Program activities
o Securing funds for the expenses of the local activities of the program, including: 2 mini-grant awards, 3 scholarships to attend the Arab Youth forum in Alexandria, knowledge sharing event and local promotion
o Promoting the program within youth networks and invite youth to participate on the online tools offered by TakingITGlobal and InfoMall.
o Promoting and participating in the four Live Chats
o Promoting the Panorama and Global Gallery contest 
o Collecting success stories for the publication 
If applications were received from the coordinator’s country, then he/she will:
• Be part of the Grants & Scholarships Selection committee 

If winners were chosen from the coordinator’s country, he/she will be:

• Preparing, and coordinating the knowledge sharing event in their country
• Submitting Knowledge-sharing event report and upload photos
• Offering support to the winners in their country and follow up on their projects 

* Note:
If no winners were chosen from the coordinator’s country, he/she will coordinate an open forum on the theme “Dialogue and Mutual Understanding-Take Action”

 Online Engagement

o Participating as an active TakingITGlobal (TIG) community member 
o Initiating discussions on the Youth for Change website
o Posting comments on TakingITGlobal’s Panorama and Global Gallery sections
o Responding to TIGblog entries and posting one of their own on a regular basis
o Promoting Country Sites and the TIG website to local youth groups 
o Contacting and providing support to new TakingITGlobal members
o Participating in regular team meetings and submitting monthly reports
o Other duties, as necessary


Qualifications/Skills Required:

o Strong written and presentation skills in both Arabic and English
o Strong project management, leadership and fundraising skills
o Prior experience with community development projects
o Has knowledge and skills in outreach to youth and youth organizations
o Ability to work in a collaborative physical and virtual context
o Positive and open minded
o Interest or background in youth engagement, community development, and information & communications technologies
o An active member of TakingITGlobal’s online community is considered an asset
