The King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD)

"I have felt the enthusiasm of farmers in Ajloun and Aghwar, and that of fishermen in Aqaba to offer and create, once the means of support and technical guidance are available. I was happy for the keenness of retired servicemen to train on computer's latest skills. From the above mentioned, we would like to establish a fund that would be an institutional umbrella which contributes to enhance social, developmental and educational efforts as well as specific projects like the ones we have hinted at."

The King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) was established by a Royal Decree in 2001 as a non-governmental organization working to provide all segments of the Jordanian community, particularly the underprivileged brackets, away from direct loaning, with new and innovative economic opportunities aimed at alleviating their socio-economic burdens in response to their needs, priorities and socio-economic situations. KAFD works to achieve developmental goals in all governorates, elevate the standards of living there and provide talents with opportunities to bloom and excel.

Vision:

KAFD seeks to justly distribute the gains of sustainable development among all governorates through establishing pioneering projects and encouraging creativity, on the backdrop of a true partnership with the private sector and civil society institutions. The ultimate goal is to raise citizens' standards of living and improve their living conditions, as part of a nation-wide fight against poverty and unemployment.

Mission:

KAFD undertakes a key part in national efforts to push forward the sustainable development process through capitalizing on citizens' capabilities and potentials in all governorates. The fund contributes to programs designed to empower the targeted segments to engage them in creative and productive activities. Through this, KAFD seeks to earn Jordan distinction by building up productive and well-qualified human resources, a matter that serves the goals of socio-economic development in the long run.

Beneficiaries:

KAFD programs and projects indiscriminately serve individuals, groups, companies and public and private institutions, fully observing the fund's principles of transparency, productivity, profitability, sustainability, mutual cooperation and effective funding. The fund hopes through full observance of these principles to achieve the envisioned tangible economic and social impact, maintaining at the same time harmony with the modern economic mode of Jordan.

Strategies:

  • Establishing productive developmental projects and providing means of support and technical consultation needed to develop them.
  • Establishing companies and institutions, or contributing to existing ones; entering partnerships with other parties and individuals interested in benefiting from KAFD's projects. Establishing and supporting social, cultural and sports programs and plans.
  • Contributing to the vocational training process, IT-based education and distant learning.
  • Assisting excelling students at all educational levels and supporting scientific activities.
  • Providing direct support to local communities with the aim of improving their living conditions.
