Crossing Borders

About Us
What is Crossing Borders?
Crossing Borders is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation based at Humlebaek in Denmark with cooperating partners in Egypt, Finland, Germany, Israel, Jordan, Palstine and Yemen.

The primary aim of Crossing Borders is to provide impartial dialogue space and skills training for youth and educators, with special focus on the Middle East, to fully participate in the development process of their societies. The activities of Crossing Borders comprise training courses, seminars and workshops in conflict management, intercultural communication and media skills designed for youth and educators. The other core activity of CB is the publication and distribution of the bi-monthly Crossing Borders magazine by and for Arab and Israeli youth. The methods and principles of Crossing Borders are based on ongoing dialogue, equal participation, shared ownership and concrete and joint output with learning elements of immediate and long term benefits to the participants and their communities.

The Need for Crossing Borders Dialogue
As global integration increases mutual dependency across the globe, the need for sound intercultural knowledge and understanding, communication and cooperation skills is no longer a luxury. Such communication skills have become necessary life competencies and social qualifications for a more peaceful and cooperative coexistence within and between increasingly multicultural societies.

The increased accumulation of knowledge and material wealth, instant communication technologies and pervasive global transport systems have not reduced inter-group misunderstandings or abolished violent conflicts within and between societies.

Thus, the need to apply the concept of cross-border dialogue, mutual learning and non-violent communication has become more urgent today than ever before. Giving young people relevant training and civic education opportunities will enable them to confidently participate in the development processes that affect their present lives and future opportunities as adult members and leaders of society.
