12to12 Community Portal - United Against Child Labour

12to12 Community Portal - United Against Child Labour
How the Portal Came to life :
The idea to create a Community Portal stems from the growing interest generated by the 12 to 12 Partnership Initiative which aims to create a worldwide network of partners and to foster joint plans of action to raise awareness and mobilize society against child labour. The goal is to promote sustainable and global impact in the build-up to each World Day Against Child Labour on June 12th. As the number of initiatives increased, it became evident that the different actors can benefit from sharing experiences to help them to harmonize their action to reinforce the worldwide movement against child labour. The Portal was created to respond to the need for a networking platform. The countdown in the header reminds us that as each day goes by every exploited child is waiting for our protection and help. Together we can break the wall of indifference towards child labour, empower those who are marginalized and neglected and ensure more socially responsible behaviour.
Purpose
The main purpose of the Portal is to inform, create awareness and bring together the action taken by the various groups of people (“communities”) against child labour and to promote child rights. The Portal provides a gateway for meaningful child participation and youth empowerment both in developing and industrialized countries and enables young people and adults to work together in the process of change for the better.
Concretely, the 12 to 12 Community Portal seeks to:
• Build knowledge: by serving as a platform to exchange and share experiences, information and learning on the subject of child labour
• Highlight action: by increasing the visibility of different initiatives to raise awareness and mobilize action, the Portal becomes a catalyst for creativity and social commitment within communities
• Strengthen collaboration: by promoting collaboration on joint initiatives and facilitating networking nationally, regionally and internationally
How you can participate in the 12 to 12 Community Portal
Through the 12 to 12 Community Portal you can:
• Upload materials, including:
- Documents/files regarding your awareness raising activities, whether big or small, in schools, universities, NGOs, government institutions, international organizations, workers' and employers' organization and communities to take action against child labour. This may be a conference, public debate, your research or thesis, a theatre script, your artwork, music, poetry, etc. All activities can be shared on the Portal, including:
- Upcoming events
- Recent news
- Photographs and images
- Links to useful websites
• Share your opinions with others. Using the Portal “Blog”, you can express your thoughts and comment on action that is being taken to stop child labour and secure child protection.
• Create an online working group. You can set up a workgroup to share information and develop an initiative with others.
Young people are speaking out against child labour! A special feature of the Portal is the “International Network of Children for Journalism” (INCH for Journalism) through which young people use different forms of media – newspapers, radio, TV and other outlets – to inform about the world in which they live, with the focus on human rights violations and child labour in particular. To find out more visit the “Media” section of the Portal.
The Portal's think tank “The end of Child Labour: Together we can do it” calls upon university professors, researchers, anthropologists, students, social workers, doctors, policy makers, managers, politicians, and other critical thinkers to share their knowledge to show the world that the end of child labour is within reach. Visit the “Universities” section to see theses, articles and research papers on this issue.
Your participation will contribute to the growing worldwide movement against child labour, one of the urgent priorities in the International Labour Organization’s Decent Work Agenda and the Millennium Development Goals. Through the Portal we can promote greater awareness of children’s rights and an increased sense of responsibility in the global community that the violation of children’s rights is unacceptable to everyone, everywhere.
