The Siraj Youth Leadership Program

“Young Leaders Practicing Leadership”

“Siraj” – providing Arab youth with inspiring and affirmative role models and networks that demonstrate positive and practical ways to contribute to their society and economy.

Be the Siraj... Be the Light..!

The Siraj youth leadership program is being implemented by Save the Children in five Arab countries: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, West Bank/Gaza and Yemen.

Siraj objectives:

ENHANCED SERVICES – Siraj builds youth leadership capacities and provides shared learning forums for youth to learn about and exchange leadership resources, knowledge, and practices. The Siraj Leadership Tool Kit presents leadership competencies, case studies and skills to be examined and shared at the national and regional levels ensuring that emerging leaders are at the forefront of positive development approaches.

Siraj provides INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES for youth to put leadership into practice using learning by doing approaches to implement community youth development projects.

Siraj then anchors leadership development through IMPROVED SUPPORT where positive “communities of practice” can meet and remain connected. Siraj networks bring together dynamic young leaders practicing and promoting collective leadership models in the Arab world.

Siraj works with:
• Young people themselves older than 14 and not yet 30
• Youth Workers and Role Models
• Organizations working with youth

A Siraj is:
• Literally a light in their family, community and/or society
• An example of positive youth development through their actions
• May have overcome personal or environmental hardship to achieve their goals
• Someone who connects to their community and whose actions have changed attitudes or benefited others
• A young leader, older than 14 and not yet 30

Siraj Activities:
• Develop and disseminate an action oriented capacity building tool kit to be delivered, through non-traditional, interactive, shared learning approaches to organizations, youth workers / role models and young leaders themselves.
• Support a hub of opportunities, publications and institution that promote youth leadership.
• Develop and promote networks of youth, youth workers, and organizations practicing positive youth development and affirmative civic activism in the Arab world.
• Highlight leadership success stories and best practices in the regional and local media.
• Convene regional exchange meetings bringing together youth, youth workers and organizations working with youth.

“If your actions INSPIRE others to DREAM more, LEARN more, DO more and BECOME more, you are a SIRAJ”
